Oglala Woman Pleads Guilty to Shaking Baby

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Angela Yellow Horse, age 19, of Oglala, appeared before US District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on April 1, 2011, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged her with Abuse of a Minor. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 15 years imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.
Between January and March 2010, Yellow Horse intentionally shook her infant son, causing brain swelling. The investigation was conducted by the FBI, the BIA, and OST-DPS. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Britt M. Haxton.
A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for June 20, 2011. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the US Marshal pending sentencing.
